John 4:24

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."
Anyone who can be a Christian can be a Presbyterian.  The only requirement for membership in the church is affirmation of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and the expression of the desire to be Christ's disciple in this community of faith.  We administer the Sacrament of Baptism if one has not been previously baptized.  And at the Lord's Table all Christians are invited and welcome.  Persons to be received as new members meet with the body of elders (called the Session) and are presented to the congregation.  Interested persons may contact one of the elders.  Members are received by one of three ways.

Profession of Faith This is the way new members are received who are new Christians.  One affirms faith in Jesus Christ.

Transfer of Membership Persons who are members of another Christian church can be received by Southminster by transfer of membership from the other congregation.

Reaffirmation of Faith Persons who are Christians and have been received in the past by a church, but perhaps have become inactive, can be received by re-affirming faith in Jesus Christ and his call to discipleship.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat;this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
